HOME EDUCATION PROVISION
,Our Home education series is aimed at young people aged 8+ and runs in blocks throughout term time. We provide structured outdoor learning for children and young people who are educated outside of mainstream school and are ready for more than open-ended outdoor experiences.
Although there is time for play and exploration this programme is best suited to children who are ready for structured outdoor learning and are beginning to seek more challenge and responsibility. For those in earlier stages of outdoor exploration, we recognise that a more play-led approach is often the right starting point, and where appropriate we will facilitate this until they are ready for the next step.
We run 3 groups each week during term-time and all are varied in ages and dynamic. Sessions run from 10am – 3pm and each session costs £35pp. We offer a sibling discount so get in touch if you would like to book in more than one child.
Participants will need to wear appropriate clothing and be equipped for the weather and bring a packed lunch. We rarely cancel a session but in the case of extremely high winds we will either look for another lower risk venue or cancel and refund the cost of the session.

“Paul and Alex have given my kids a huge amount of knowledge in this 6 week course but the increase in their self confidence, social skills and enthusiasm for physical activities is most apparent. They encourage respect and awareness of their environment through storytelling and teaching practical skills. A rare resource for kids in modern times. It’s been a truly life changing experience for them and won’t hesitate to book more courses in the future. Thank you so much.”
While many families come to us through Forest School or similar provision, our approach differs in intent and structure. We focus on progression, practical skill development, and increasing responsibility over time, supporting young people to move from confidence in outdoor environments towards genuine capability within them.
Sessions take place outdoors and are highly practical. Young people learn to safely use tools, build shelters, manage fire, cook outdoors, navigate, and work with natural materials in a responsible and sustainable way. Alongside this, they develop teamwork, resilience, problem-solving, and independence.
Learning is supported through our PATH TO ASCENDANCY AWARD SCHEME, which provides a clear progression pathway for skill development and responsibility. Skills are taught, practised, and revisited, with increasing expectations as confidence grows. Progress is measured by what a young person can demonstrate in practice, not simply attendance or exposure.
SURVIVAL AND BUSHCRAFT SKILLS
There is a huge amount to learn and we will try to provide a good foundation in all of the disciplines outlined below. We might not be able to cover all of the subjects in each series as we are often led by the group but we will try our very best to provide as much in-depth knowledge and learning as we possibly can.
WOODWORKING
NATURAL CORDAGE
TRACKING
FORAGING
PRIMITIVE CRAFTS
NAVIGATION
It’s not only about the practical though – during each session we weave together survival skills, grounding exercises, play, exploration, fire time, traditional storytelling and problem solving.
ARE YOU A FOREST SCHOOL?
We are often described as “Forest School” because we work outdoors with children in natural environments using tools, fire, and experiential learning. While there are shared roots in outdoor education, we do not define our provision as Forest School.
Forest School is a well-established approach that focuses on play, exploration, and early emotional development in nature. It is particularly effective in the early stages of outdoor learning, where confidence, curiosity, and connection to the natural world are the primary focus.
Our work sits beyond this stage. While we value the foundations that outdoor learning provides, our programme is structured around skill development, increasing responsibility, and clear progression over time. Young people are supported to build capability in outdoor environments through practical, hands-on learning.
“Led by a team of professional, knowledgeable and friendly warriors. My daughter has loved every session. Worth every penny.”
